Let's Rumble! Story time with Author Rachel Payne

Let's Rumble! Story time with Author Rachel Payne In-Person

Join us for a read-aloud of Let’s Rumble! A Rough-and-Tumble Book of Play! and some boisterous play activities with author and children’s librarian Rachel G. Payne. Kids will get creative and make their own rough-and-tumble play books. Parents and caregivers will learn why rough-and-tumble play is actually good for kids!
"When the oldest and youngest siblings decide to rumble, they do so with great imagination and careful consent. Wrecking ball! Steamroller! Bear hug! Sandwich!… The list goes on of inspiringly creative physical play scenarios, with a running narration of text bubbles between kids. When the middle sibling decides to join, the other two inform her of their code word (“Cantaloupe”), which means “Stop everything!” An engaging and encouraging model of healthy rough-and-tumble play, the benefits of which are explained in pointer-rich back matter for parents and caregivers."
Rachel G. Payne is a children’s librarian specializing in early literacy and an advocate for play. She has written for School Library Journal, Kirkus, Horn Book Magazine, and Library Trends. She chaired the 2016 Caldecott Award Committee and she was a founding member of the Margaret Wise Brown Board Book Award Jury. She has a master's degrees from Bank Street College of Education and Long Island University in early childhood/elementary education and library science respectively. She lives in Queens, NY with her husband and son, an expert rumbler. Visit Rachel online at RachelGPayne.com.
